Plot
An uninvited guest arrives in Seokjeong-ri, a secluded country town. It is so remote that its people don't even take the war rumor seriously. The entire nation has been thrown into utter confusion soon after the Korean War broke out, but Seokjeong-ri is peaceful, a town where the radio signal is so weak and full of noise. A troop of North Korean soldiers led by Jeong-woong (Kim Joo-hyeok), a young and foreign-educated communist military officer, enters the small village just when the villagers are busy preparing for the wedding of Seol-Hee (Jung Ryeo-won), the assertive granddaughter of Gujang (Byun Hee-bong).
In the early part, North Korean soldiers seem to take over the village easily as villagers - such as Jaechun (Yoo Hae-jin) who warmly welcome them, Mr. Baeck (Kim Sang-ho) who rolls up his sleeves to help them, Gujang (Byun Hee-bong) who is a decent and quiet man, etc. -- offer heartfelt hospitality and cooperation. As a result, the North Korean soldiers lower their guard.
However, that is part of the effective tactic of the villagers to avoid falling out of the troop's favor and keep the peace and safety of the village. Eventually, friendship starts to blossom between the soldiers and the villagers in Seokjeong-ri, and the high command of the North Korean army orders a secret operation.
