Kim In-seo (Kim Min-jong), a young, competent lawyer, takes a bus Gangneung to deliver a lecture at a university there, and happens to run into Choi Sung-ju (Lee Ah-hyun). Sung-ju is a daring, attractive career woman whom he met on a blind date the other day. But he doesn't seem too interested, in spite of Sung-ju's active attempts to rope him in.He tells her his story point-blank, his gloomy face as grey as the winter scenery. Two years prior, In-seo arrives at a shipbuilding site on Geoje Island to handle a case involving patent rights. While getting closer to the workers by playing sports with them in the yard, he meets Hwa-yeon (Kim Yu-mi), who is working as a site transporter in the shipbuilding industry. As a joke, In-seo suggests to her that they could keep a relationship going between them for one year maximum, a comment which hurts Hwa-yeon's feelings. When she gets drunk at an office party, In-seo attempts to take Hwa-yeon safely home, He struggles to cross a hill where her home is located, with her slung over his back. The hill is surrounded by a palm forest that meets the ocean, and in this setting sits a remote house. In the house, three women are living: Hwa-yeon, her grandmother, and her mother, who is paralyzed. The palm forest is filled with the women's endless longing for lovers who have never returned.
