Plot

There are 28 stairs on the way to the school dormitory. It is called the Wishing Stairs, because it is said that if you climb the stairs with a wish in mind, a 29th stair will appear and your wish will come true. The girls climb the stairs, forgetting that the wish comes back as a curse. Jin-seong and So-hui are best friends who both study at the dance department. But no matter how hard she tries, she is always second best to So-hui who is naturally talented at ballet. Jin-seong’s heart jumps when she learns that there will be a Seoul ballet concours for which the school will choose one candidate. Her joy is fleeting, when she overhears the teachers saying that So-hui should be chosen as the school representative. Jin-seong heads for the wishing stairs as if hypnotized. So-hui is chosen to participate in the concours, even though someone had put broken pieces of glass inside her toe shoes. Jin-seong and So-hui get in an argument, and they are mad at each other. So-hui falls down the stairs while quarreling. Meanwhile, Hye-ju, a fat girl in the art department is always teased by her classmates. She envies So-hui, who is the prettiest girl in school. After being embarrassed in front of her classmates, she climbs the wishing stairs. Jin-seong, who had attended the concours instead of So-hui, wins first prize.
