Plot
Eighteen year-old Bok-nyo is sold to a lazy widower, twenty years her senior, for 80 Won. She is violated by her supervisor at the salt farm where she works. She changes her behavior from then on. She becomes a mistress to the shop owner, to Choi, a herbalist and to Wang, the Chinese. She becomes very well-to-do and begins to live a good life. She attacks Wang with a scythe when he marries another woman and dies in his hands. Her corpse is secretly buried and the cause of her death is blamed on a brain hemorrhage.
