Plot

A deaf mute Sam-Yong is a servant of Mr. Oh who is a ship owner and landlord of an island village. He devotes himself to his master who brought him up to repay favor. Mr. Oh's son Kwang-Shik marries to Sun-Deok but he treats her cruelly from the first night. Sam-Yong feels sorry for her and at the same time mother love from her. Kwang-Shik absurdely misunderstands Sam-Yong and Sun-Deok thus Sam-Yong is kicked out of there. By the way Kwang-Shik has a love affair with Beom-Sil whose husband witnesses her infidelity. Finally Beom-Sil's husband sets a fire on Mr. Oh's House. Hearing scream from Mr. Oh's, Sam-Yong runs into the house. But he can find only already dead Sun-Deok. He absentmindedly goes to the sea with her body in his arms.
