Plot

Lee Mong-ryong is the son of the magistrate of Namwon. He goes for a walk to Gwanghanru and sees Chun-hyang, the daughter of retired kisaeng Wol-mae. He instantly falls in love, and by the time their love deepens, Mong-ryong leaves Namwon with his father who is transferred to Seoul. Byeon Hak-do, the successor of Mong-ryong's father, orders Chun-hyang to spend the night with him. Chun-hyang refuses to do so despite the cruel torture. Byeon Hak-do finally decides to kill her. In the nick of time, Mong-ryong arrives in Nam-won disguised as a beggar. He has been appointed as the royal secret commissioner to observe any misdoings by government officials. Mong-ryong drives Byeon Hak-do away and he is reunited with his love Chun-hyang.
