Plot

Biographical epic of writer Lee Gwang-su illustrates the vicissitudes of his life. He meets his wife Heo Yeong-suk and continues to write as their romance blooms. He gets involved in the independence movement with An Chang-ho while in exile in China. Against his conscience, he encourages students to enlist to the Japanese Army. After the independence, he is put on a trial for having collaborated with the colonial government, but he is acquitted. During the Korean War (1950-1953), he is abducted to the North.
