Plot

Tae-ho, a large landowner in North Korea, tries to come down to South Korea with his family after having all his property forfeited. But around the 38th Parallel, all his family members are killed, except him. Tae-ho enters the military service in the Republic of Korea. Meanwhile, Sohn-jeon, who once played the main role in driving Tae-ho's family as an anti-reactionary agent in the North, comes to feel disillusioned about the communists' deceitful policy and surrenders himself to the Korean military. When the military begins to advance toward the North, both Sohn-jeon and Tae-ho participate in it. When Sohn-jeon dies in battle, Tae-ho prays that his soul may rest in peace.
