Ho-yeong has a necklace that his friend Mun-gi gave to him before he died in the Halla Mountains. While lost in the woods, he is saved by a woodcutter and falls in love with his daughter. Before he leaves, Ho-yeong gives the necklace to the woodcutter's daughter and returns to Seoul, where he gets married. The woman he married also had the same necklace. She used to be Mun-gi's girlfriend. After some time, Ho-yeong's son grows up and falls in love with a teacher in Jeju Island. They find out that they are wearing the same necklace and realize that their relationship cannot go on. In despair, they choose to die together.
