Plot

Anniquin is the term for Korean immigrants who went to work in sugarcane fields in Mexico. In the year 1905, a group of Korean laborers are hauled off a massive ship like luggage. Dreaming of a paradise on earth, what waits for these poor workers is murderous heat and inhuman labor. Amongst the immigrants are Guk-hee, daughter of a fallen aristocrat and Chun-dong, a son of a butcher. The Korean workers live a wretched existence under the abuse of farm managers. Some try to escape the farm but are usually caught and executed or tortured to death. Some women tempt the Mexican supervisors to get special treatment. Chun-dong saves Guk-hee from the hands of a Mexican man and, despite the differences in social class, they fall in love. But Chun-dong is sent back to Korea to alert the homeland of the terrible conditions in Mexico. He promises to return to her one day.
