Chinese table tennis pro DENG Yaping, nicknamed “The Ping Pong Witch,” has previously defeated the best players from both North and South Korea, LEE Bun-hee (BAE) and HYUN Jung-hwa (HA), respectively. When the two get a chance to play together on a Unified Korea doubles team at the 1991 Chiba International Table Tennis Championships -- the first post-war unified team for the two Koreas, in any sport -- they know their combined forces will finally beat DENG and the Chinese. However, politics and dissension unsurprisingly conspire to disband the Unified team before their final match against China. HYUN and LEE must now fight for the opportunity to compete as a unified team before they can face DENG in a final showdown.
is the debut feature from director MOON Hyun-sung. The film is based on the true story of the Unified Korean team’s performance at the 1991 Chiba Championships, and the real HYUN Jung-hwa makes a special appearance in the film as the Unified team’s coach.
